Read more...Today in class we learned about the Korean War. We used the powerpoint "Korean War" to fill out a timeline. We also colored a map of the movement of the South Korean forces and the North Korean forces throughout the war. We ended class with the analysis of two different textbook selections that had very different views on who started the Korean War and why.
Read more...Today Mrs. Rockwood taught class. We begin our unit on the Cold War. We used the powerpoint "Cold War Beginnings" to take guided notes and color a map. On the map we colored the democratic countries in Europe one color, the communist countries another color, labeled all the countries, and drew the Iron Curtain line. We also did a sorting activity using traits of the United States and the Soviet Union.

Today we learned about the life on the homefront during WWII and propaganda. Students first took guided notes using the second half of the powerpoint "Japanese Internment." We then used the powerpoint "Propaganda" to learn about the techniques used by American propaganda during WWII. Students then broke up into groups and analyzed one propaganda poster together.

We first took notes using the powerpoint "Japanese Internment." We then used primary and secondary documents to decide for ourselves if Japanese internment was necessary or unnecessary during WWII.

Read more...Students will watch a movie on the Great Depression or WWII. If you chose a movie on WWII, it must include American involvement in WWII. The movie should be one that you have not seen before. The assignment has 4 parts:
1. A 1-2 paragraph summary on the movie
2. Give examples of and explain two historical accuracies in the movie
3. Give one example of a historical inaccuracy in the movie (something that is historically incorrect)
4. Explain if this movie helped you better understand the Great Depression or World War II. Why or why not?
This assignment is due the day of the exam, Wednesday March 16. Let me know if you have any questions
Today we learned about the different projects that were part of FDR's New Deal to get the U.S. out of the Great Depression. We did seven different stations. If you missed class, go to "Documents" and complete the work for three stations to make up the classwork.

Your paragraph must include:

Read more...Here are the requirements for the assignment, Due February 25th. FRIDAY
1. Must depict an aspect of the Great Depression. It must shoe THE AVERAGE American, not President Hoover, etc.
2. It must be an original photo. You cannot photoshop a photo someone took back in the 1930s, it needs to be a photo YOU took or a photo take of YOU.
3 You may work in groups, but everyone must be involved by being in or taking the photo.
4. if you do not have access to a camera, let me know and we can figure something out.
5. You must bring the PRINTED photo to class on the 25th.
Questions, talk to me sometime before/after school or during lunch.
Today we began talking about the Great Depression. We used the worksheet entitled "Great Depression Notes" to help understand.
You will have to come to intervention to talk about the concepts if you missed today. Please see me if you need help.
Today we went around the 1920s Museum in the Library. We also wrote a short paragraph on how we feel the project went.
If you were absent today, please come in and get a worksheet to tour the Museum. I will leave the displays up until Wednesday Afternoon. In order to receive points for viewing the museum, you must see it before then.
We had a work/assembly day today for our 20s projects. You should have your ENTIRE project set up in the Library by the end of today.

Read more...Today we began our 1920's Project. We discussed what is required and broke up into our groups. There is a link under assignments that outlines what is required and when things are due.
THIS WILL BE YOUR ASSESSMENT FOR THIS UNIT! Please make sure you put a lot of effort into this and help your group.
***Remember, if you are in a group of 4, you need to have either 2 interactive elements or 2 objects. EVERYONE must participate!!
It is probably because of 3 things:
1. You haven't turned in the Imperialism Notes. See the post on Imperialism or come see me for the notes.
2. You haven't turned in your folder. You may still do so, but points will be taken off for being late. Today was the last day of mercy.
3. You failed the test. Please come in to Intervention this week to do Test Corrections! If you failed the test, you are REQUIRED to do so.
Also, if you haven't turned in your disclosure document, YOU MUST DO SO or you cannot watch any more movies in the class. You will be asked to step out and you will lose points.

Today we talked about Imperialism and the Spanish-American War. We used a Power Point to fill out the worksheet and wrote a paragraph about what country we would annex if we could (instructions are on the power point titled "Imperialism and the Spanish-American War.")

Today we looked at the different reforms that were done during the Progressive Age. We went through 8 stations and did activities at each station.

Today we talked about Segregation and Discrimination during the Gilded Age and the turn of the century.
We used a power point to take notes on a worksheet, that can be found under assignments. It is called "Segregation and Discrimination."
We also watched "A Class Divided" and answered questions, also found on the worksheet.

Today we introduced the Gilded Age. Students completed a collage that represented one of the leisure activities that became popular during this age.

Today we looked at everyone's immigration projects. We turned in folders for this unit (paper bag book, My Immigration Story, and the immigration project survey) 2nd period took a test.
